Hi, I'm Katherine Anne Cantin Sterren, a writer from Elk River, Minnesota.

Education

I graduated from the University of Minnesota, Morris in 2018 with a BA in English with a creative writing subplan and a minor in Spanish. 

During my time at the university, I was the editor-in-chief of the Floating World literary journal. This was an annual publication comprised of students' work, including poems, short stories, and visual art. As editor-in-chief, it was my task to edit all the student entries and take the journal from a variety of submissions to final printed product as head of my team.

Work Experience

After graduation, I found a job as a reporter in my hometown of Becker, MN, working for the local newspaper, Patriot News. I started as a part time worker covering local city hall meetings and special interest stories around the four communities our paper serves. 

After a while, I was offered a full time in-office position at the newspaper, where, in addition to my previous duties, I worked as the right-hand-woman to the editor. In this capacity, I helped to create a brand new house style, I edited submitted articles to fit that style, and I also assisted the editor/graphic designer in additional tasks as needed, including updating ad copy and doing some light graphic design. 

In 2023, I had an opportunity to take on a position as a technical writer for a local factory, Eastey (Big Lake, MN). The job entailed writing assembly instructions for use in training new employees. I quit my full time position at the newspaper but continued to work there part time.

In 2024, I completed my project with Eastey, and since that time I have been looking for new opportunities while continuing to work part time at Patriot.

What I Can Offer You

I am skilled in editing, proofreading, researching, and interviewing.  I am able to turn out articles on a deadline and I love to learn new things. I pick up quickly on new skills and I love a challenge. I enjoy looking at a story and trying to determine which parts of that story would be important to my audience, and featuring that information front and center.
